The words and the art work together, inviting readers to take in the whole story
so they are inspired to consume it in full.
Diablo Custom Publishing (DCP) helps companies and organizations plan and produce custom publications in print and online formats.
Since the late 1970s we have published consumer magazines that attract attention, entertain and educate readers, and connect brands to the aspirations and interests of their customers.
We have learned that great magazines come in many different styles and purposes, but the best ones feature:
That’s the recipe we use to create great publications for our clients. The task is to translate our client’s brand into intriguing magazines, interesting newsletters and captivating custom books that present the brand identity and its value while attracting and influencing the target audience. By associating our client’s brand with the personal lifestyle interests of the audience, the brand’s image and customer relationships are enhanced.
Whether it’s telling the stories of patients, recounting the achievements of university alumni or celebrating destinations for interested travelers, you want the writing and the photography to tell the story. The words and the art work together, inviting readers to take in the whole story so they are inspired to consume it in full and be motivated to take progressive actions.
Diablo Publications, the parent company of DCP, is based in Walnut Creek, California, in the East Bay region just 25 miles east of San Francisco.
Sitting at the center of several surrounding East Bay communities is an isolated peak named Mount Diablo. As mountains go, Mount Diablo isn’t particularly tall, only 3,849 feet. However, it is surrounded by low hills and flat valleys, so the view from the modest summit is remarkable. When conditions are best, you can see almost 200 miles, from Sacramento to Yosemite.
The reference to “Diablo” or devil can be traced back to 1805…
Rest assured, we are not “El Diablo,” but Diablo Publications from Walnut Creek.
Save Mount Diablo is a nationally accredited land trust and conservation organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is its story of how our mountain got its name:
The reference to “Diablo” or devil can be traced back to 1805, when Spanish military troops searched for Native Americans who had run away from a mission. At a willow thicket near present-day Buchanan Field in Concord, the soldiers encountered a camp of Chupcan people and surrounded it. During that night, the Native Americans escaped unseen and unheard.
Angry and confused, the Spanish called the site “Monte del Diablo,” or “thicket of the devil.” Later, English-speaking newcomers mistakenly assumed the word “monte” meant “mountain” and applied the title to the prominent nearby peak. A linguistic accident thus gave California its Devil Mountain.
The valley surrounding Mount Diablo is called Diablo Valley and all the communities within it are referred to as Diablo Country. Today you’ll find Diablo Foods, Diablo Valley College, Diablo Dry Cleaners and countless other businesses named for the mountain and valley.
When we work with clients from outside the San Francisco Bay Area who may not be familiar with our location and geography, we like to point out that our name does not imply anything evil or wicked (although we do like to have fun with this, and have even named a section “Speak of the Devil” in our local lifestyle magazine). Rest assured, we are not “El Diablo,” but Diablo Publications from Walnut Creek.
