July 28, 2009, DCP Revamps Magazine for Up-and-Coming Market—“Tween” Girl Gamers
DCP is wrapping up an extensive redesign and rewrite of a custom publication designed for the growing market of Tween girls, ages 7 to 12 years old. The company behind this branded magazine is a leading producer, publisher and distributor of interactive entertainment products worldwide. Gearing up to increase sales to these girls who have been traditionally overlooked by big gaming publishers, the game publisher hired DCP to transform their existing publication from an advertorial piece to an exciting Tween lifestyle magazine.

The client was introduced to DCP through Comcast’s Buzz magazine. In Buzz they saw the edit style they wanted—entertaining and fun feature stories complemented by subtle selling of products/services through departments and sidebars.

DCP is excited to bring our expertise to this magazine and help our client create a vibrant, fun, interactive magazine that will achieve and exceed their goals to:
>    Deepen brand loyalty
>    Drive subscription growth for the free magazine
>    Cross-promote products and brands
>    Reduce the time client works on magazine content

The result of several months of intense work is a lively mix of gaming-related content, celebrity and lifestyle content, interactive activities, and practical how-to information. All this content is packaged in an attractive, user-friendly structure that is easy for girls to navigate.

“This has been a fun project for DCP—working to create a popular, compelling magazine that inspires Tween girls to become subscribers and loyal gamers,” says Jim Offel, General Manager at DCP. “As we’ve immersed ourselves in the Tween mindset and lingo, we’ve also worked hard to ensure that we’re offering a good, safe choice for parents. Our creative team thrives on this type of opportunity to communicate with a new, growing market.”

March 25, 2009, DCP Revamps the San Francisco Giants Magazine

DCP has recently completed an extensive redesign of the San Francisco Giants team magazine. For 2009, the Giants want a fresh approach for the magazine as frequency increases from four to six issues. Overall, the new strategy includes greater focus on the game of baseball, using a more graphic treatment of content. The goal is to reposition Giants magazine as a baseball authority and to entice readers’ interest with a more dynamic page structure.

The Giants have been one of the most successful and influential teams in major league baseball. Stories will be given a more global focus by concentrating on the sport of baseball, so that Giants magazine places the Giants and their players into a league-wide context. This wide-angle editorial lens delivers the high standing of the tradition of Giants baseball, within the context of major league baseball, while providing fans with a wider view of the art and science of the game.

With more graphical elements in play, a fan has time to read portions between pitches or innings. This style also makes Giants magazine more appealing to younger readers. A few of the new sections in this compelling 108-page magazine include:

Physics of Baseball—A product of the Giants and Exploratorium partnership on programs that use baseball to explain math and science concepts.

New Voices—Reporting, writing and illustration by Everett Middle School students through the 826 Valencia Writers’ Room program.

Grant Brisbee—A column from the blogger behind the popular Giants blog McCovey Chronicles, where he has covered the team daily since 2005.

“As we move Giants magazine to a more graphic-driven style, information becomes easier for fans to take in,” says Jim Offel, General Manager at DCP. “This will naturally result in a “punchier” read – more ESPN Magazine than Sports Illustrated; more The Week than Time magazine. It has been a great pleasure working with the talented Giants team for the past 14 years and we’re extremely excited about this revitalized magazine.”

February 5, 2009, DCP Launches Brown & Toland Physicians E-Newsletter
DCP has launched the inaugural edition of EMR Connect, a monthly e-newsletter for Brown & Toland Physicians. The goal of this program is to share valuable information with Brown & Toland providers, information that will help physicians transform the way they do business and enhance their practice’s productivity.

DCP provided turnkey editorial, design, production, distribution, and reporting services for this project. In addition, they discover six links to useful Web resources.

“Brown & Toland Physicians has leveraged DCP’s expertise to create a physician-targeted e-newsletter program that will provide valuable content to the physician network,” says Jim Offel, General Manager at DCP. “The result is a professional and cost effective way to communicate with physicians regularly on important health technology issues.”

February 5, 2009, DCP Expanding Online Services to Include Publication Micro-Sites

DCP announces a new product offering—custom designed micro-sites for online publications. Designed to complement existing print publications or as stand-alone online content sites, the micro-site expands on DCP’s existing E-Pub and NextPub products to provide a full range of options for clients looking to expand their custom media capabilities online.

“The micro-site provides our customers with another option to deliver content to their audiences in a cost-effective manner,” says Amy Romanoff, director of marketing at DCP.

Unlike a digital version of a print magazine, the micro-site has full HTML functionality to accommodate social media interaction and networking capabilities that bring the content to life. Elements include:

> Content from existing print sources
> Content archives
> Web exclusive articles that can be updated daily, weekly, or monthly
> Podcasts, videos, and other rich media
> Event & resource listings
> Blogs
> Navigation links to pages on main web site
> Subscription and audience survey forms

DCP’s micro-site includes a user-friendly content management system (CMS) that allows the client to add new content quickly and painlessly. This functionality is crucial to the product’s viability since it facilitates the distribution of fresh content as soon as it’s developed. The frequency of content updates drives traffic to the micro-site. Other potential sources of web traffic include print communications, the host (main) web site, and email marketing campaigns.

“Our clients ‘get it’,” says Jim Offel, general manager at DCP. “They’re not abandoning their print communications, but rather looking for ways to expand on the delivery of content to their customers, prospects, and members. This was a natural area of expansion for us since we have been developing email campaigns and websites for clients for the past several years, including successful online campaigns with WebEx, Brown & Toland, and the YMCA.”
